India has enough wheat, rice stocks

India has enough stocks of wheat and rice to meet domestic demand, trade minister Anand Sharma said on Thursday.

On Sept. 1, India had 30.1 million tonnes of wheat stocks, up from 23.2 million tonnes a year earlier, and rice stocks had doubled to 17.2 million tonnes from 8.5 million tonnes.

The minister added that it was not the time to review the existing export ban on wheat and non-basmati rice.
