Sri Lanka government has decided to import 50,000 metric tons of rice as a reserve to meet any artificial dearth created by the traders.
Speaking at a cabinet press briefing held in Colombo this morning, Media Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said they have taken this decision at the cabinet meeting held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa last night.
He said there would be no dearth of rice in the Sri Lankan market in the future as they plan to import rice immediately.
According to the Minister the price of the rice will be kept steady after importing the stocks.
